The Promise of Peace Community Garden
As an educator for over 35 years I have encountered separation between those that have and those who have not in our communities and schools. Two years ago I had an idea that if there was a place where all could gather on common ground and learn how to live our best lives – that this one thing could tear down barriers and dissolve existing negative perspectives that have driven the increasing crime, high school drop out rate and teenage pregnancy for decades.
Now that we have established a thriving community garden at the Promise of Peace, I can see this happening. While we are learning to grow our own food and how to sustain our health and better eating habits, we are build strong positive relationships across neighborhoods.
